Save/export polyglot edits?

Hi,

It seems that I did a major mistake, when decided to do the translations to local language by editing the fields in Polyglot.

At first I tried to follow the instructions in creating new language module, but somehow I didn't manage it to work. So I ended up in using the default English language module, and translated all the fields to local language in Polyglot.

But now my concern is, that if I ever will update or re-install some modules, or accidentaly click the Reload-button in Developer module, all my 3000 translated fields will be reset. :D  Is there any way to export the current translations from the database, to avoid the situation that I need to start the huge job from the scratch?

(anyways, I think I'll need to do it in some way, because I still wish to do the translation as it is meant to do officially, i.e. by creating a new module...)

    • Hi Sami I did exactly the same thing you did :)
But it is creating problems later.
If you created extra form fields problem is bigger if not not a very big problem. But to have a normal functioning language system there is no other method for now besides creating the language module.
All the English to your language translation through polyglot is in sys_localisation_keys table. If you have custom fields they are registered to two more tables as you may see below.
The best solution is creating the language modul .
      Check this:
      ....
During my Turkish Language module creation I had many problems

      * Before creating the module I did Turkish translations over English module from polygot. This was a wrong strategy from the beginning (and Baloo warned me for this :) )
      * When I uninstall English module the the data lists like cities in Turkey (86) or Medical Faculties  (99) on forms module they all lost their titles they were like bx_pre..... something, even guessing what is what becomes almost impossible  .
I observed the database by creating custom form elements and checking where they are registered in database and cache from backup clone site my findings were:
They were recorded to sys_form_pre_lists and sys_form_pre_values

Restoring these to new database was not enough also it needed sys_localisation_keys table restoration. In this table each language has a language key value like English is 3 Turkish becomes 4
Also in cache there is an English language file. This has all the values but restoring this from backup is only creating a temporary full relief if the database is not correct.

After these table restorations now I can install uninstall restore recompile languages and my form titles are not being effected.

      • The clone of the English or Russian module is not hard to do, but I understand that not everyone will succeed, especially for a new user who already has a lot to assimilate. It should be able to clone automatically with a button create new language. If this is not done, many will take this wrong way and translate English module directly and get in trouble, it's already two people, there will be others ...

        • Sami,

Also Una updated the explanations on language module creation,  it's more clear to understand now.

          • Thanks Cem and Baloo,

I'm kinda happy to know that I'm not the only person facing these problems. :D I'll take a look of your solution shortly, Cem.

Baloo, I agree - even though I have quite much experience, the process was quite slow. The instructions were detailed, but still, this is a quite basic functionality, that should be done by clicking a button.

I thought that I managed to make a copy of english language module (and my own module even appeared in Apps market, but clicking the install button just gives the "Cannot install module from directory"-error. Without any further information, I didn't have time to start researching, what could cause the problem.

            • ... I just wanted to mention, that I now tried creating a new language profile again. And it worked like a magic.

So, complaining and a cup of coffee seems to work. :-)

              • I am expierienced Dolpphin user with PRO license. Both Dolphin and UNA are clever software. BUT... in my over 17 yrs web developer work I dont remember any other software more difficult to translate and to add/create/change a new language then DOLPHIN and now UNA (which on this area is even worst). Sorry BOONEX.

Creating a new language should be 'pres the button' job and all language phrases should be ready to translate right away.
