Member Location Update

I need to add the location field from the member profile to the Login form but the form doesnt seem to be editable.  Moving the location field to the login screen would stop the user having to edit their profile each time they logged in. Being there are so many clicks to get to the location field they just simply won't update their location making searches show no local users.

If this isn't possible, can the location field be added to a form on its own so that the form be triggered straight after login?

    • You can try to make Location field mandatory, so when user creates profile then their must specify location. Also it will force existing users to update location when they decide to edit their profile.

      • Thanks for the suggestion, but this doen't help a user after initially creating their profile.  They would still need to go and edit their profile each time.  If I could put the location feild on a popup called from an icon in the main nav that would be the best option if it cant go on login form

        • Such popup will require custom modification. Adding field to login form will not work anyway since login form and profile edit form are very different forms an they aren't directly connected.

          • For the location functionality to ever reach its full potential it has to be made more accessible to the user. Will you not agree that the logical place for the location update be on the login form? Having put in so much work making UNA mobile ready yet ignore the very essence of mobility, location is such an oversight. As for custom modification, who is going to be able to do this. There is only Anton, who keeps promising to get back to me or you guys. Neither of whom are forth coming. Both Anton and Mark have said they will get back to me for weeks now. It seems to me that the promises of endless opportunities for expanding UNA are pretty hollow. UNA is what you see is what you get and there is no flexibility or interest in thinking outside the box.

            • Sorry, I don't agree that logical place for location field is on login form.

              • Not even when using UNA for proximity based applications that require location to be updated regularly?  You still expect the user to go into their profile and update each time the change location? Home to work, to dinner, back to home?

                • Hello, I understand that if you want a site based on localization and you need to know every moment of the day where your members are, then that is not enough.
But in most cases, I think Alex rightly is the profile of the person who needs to be located and updated whenever he wants, not the person himself.
Perhaps you should explain in which case you have this need, because all the discussions we had here about location so far were rather focused on a privacy issue of the Google owner API.
Following these discussions the following ticket has been opened, I suggest you take a look, it may be interesting because I am convinced that it will open new opportunities with the advantage of open source.

Also, this app from AQB is already based on Open Source and it works really well.

Could not it suit you or ask for a specific adaptation to your desires?
