Android app, notifications

When a new notification is received, how do you dismiss the notification without going directly to it? 

I was trying to make a post when I received a notification. All I could do was click ok, and then it took me to the responses someone else. 

I lost my post, and will have to create it again.

      I accidentally clicked on the name I linked to in my post and was taken to that persons profile... and I lost my post.  Frustrating.
