Notifications - Site - Not going away

A few things:

  1. I'm not fond of notifications not showing up right after the action has happened. Aka they're not instant. I have to refresh my page/browser to see if I have a notification.
    1. Same goes for Instant Messenger.
      1. Push notifications work on desktop only but not on my phone with Messenger. (Messenger = Separate issue)
  2. I've experienced the notifications getting stuck after I've purchased a digital download in the market. The notification for the purchase doesn't go away. (Test Profile
  3. This time, I had a user become friends with me (Admin) and then subscribe. Now the notification for one of these actions won't go away...

This is the sequence of how it happened.

User Suscribed and became friends with Admin.

And now it won't go away...

Like I said above...
I've experienced this with the purchase notification on my other test profile also...

      • After this last update...Notifications are still squirrelly...

        • By default these notifications are refreshed every 10 seconds

          • Ok, I get the 10 second rule...but it seems to be creating a weird vortex of the notifications being behind and also being ahead.

I'm not really sure how to explain it...They never seem to actually be the actual number of notifications, especially when I'm hopping back and forth between pages and have messenger notifications coming in also...

Is there a way to just have each one push when it happens? Kind of what happens with the messenger, when it pushes a notification to my phone?

I know this all takes time and coding and I appreciate what you guys do...just trying to point out things that I notice.

            • This is kind of what I'm talking about...

              • It showed that I had 3 notifications
              • It showed that I had 2 notifications in messenger, so I clicked on messenger.
                • I actually only had one, which was a message from Andrew.
                • Once I checked the message from Andrew, it still says that I have 3 notifications.
                • So I clicked on my profile pic again and waited to see if it went away.
                • This is the screen shot you see above.
              • I then clicked on the word "notifications", it says 1.
              • That's when all the notifications went away.

My point here is that when you're buzzing through the site, sometimes the notifications get hung up or don't go away and start getting confusing.
Also, another point I'd like to make is that I'm not ever sure which notification (on the notification page) I've seen or haven't seen.

I know facebook uses a light blue color for unseen notifications and then once clicked, it makes it white.

              Example:

I know this is a lot...but from a user standpoint these are small things that make a big difference in the user's experience...

              • Thank you for the reports and your description, we really appreciate it.

We've discovered that there is a problem with notifications when more than one window is opened for the same user, I think it's related.

                • Yeah, actually was just going to tell you that. This is what I experienced and what I'm thinking is happening.

                  • If I'm checking my profile on my phone
                    • most of the time the notifications show up.
                  • If I also have a window that's been open on my computer at the same time.
                    • I noticed that if I click on the notifications, it actually erases other notifications.

                  Aka

                  • If I have multiple sessions open - one on my phone - one on my computer and check them at different times...
                    • It seems to erase some notifications
                    • Or, one will have the correct notifications and the other won't
                  • Yes, that is it. Thank you for the descriptive comments.

                    • This might be the same issue, but as I was just on my computer:

                      • Posted in a group
                        • Got the notification that I had posted in the group.
                      • Posted in another group - all on my computer
                        • Got the notification that I had posted in that group but the other notification was gone.

                      • Well, now notifications are just disappearing on their own.

The notification was in my notification timeline, I clicked on Notification again without leaving the page, this time it just disappeared without going to another page.

                        Notification is there:

Now it's gone after just basically refreshing the page.

                        • Just to ensure - are you upgraded to the latest 9.0.0-RC3 and all modules are up to date ?

                              • Hello.

I tried to reproduce the issue with "Notifications Disappearing" on dev version and had no luck.

                                1. Could you please check the version of Groups module.
                                2. If you still see the issue on your site. Could you please provide us with a step by step description of how we can reproduce it.
                                ---
                                Best Regards

                                • Hello

We are able to reproduce the issue. Will fix it shortly.
