Pricing of Apps

UNA - thank you for creating a fantastic system. The more I use it the more I like it.  :) yes, I was a big skeptic at first but am excited about the platform now.

On thing that keeps me in check is the pricing of the modules that I would want to add... for instance the Mass Mailer https://una.io/page/view-product?id=144  only option is $50 per year. Why not have a one time payment option.

However, mass mailer should be an integral part (free) of the system as it can help to drive engagement through direct communication with members.

Exporting email address from the db and running a list mailer is a bit tedious for me but signing up to another $50 per year gives me pause.

Anyway, that is my decision to make.  Thanks for the platform.

    • I agree that the apps seem expensive. As a marketing strategy I would set the prices to be more attractive to members converting from Dolphin and New Installs. Should want to grow the install base and encourage site owners to expand features and buy more apps. Price is a deterrent when there are many opensource solutions such as elgg, humhub, ph7CMS and whatever the new incarnation of oxwall turns out to be (yes i now there are many others but those are the ones I have installed and played with).

      I have posted about pricing before.  Though it is not a deterrent I am reluctant to spend heavily again as I did on Dolphin - "once bitten twice shy" as they say.

      • The “per year” price is a bit confusing actually - we will review it soon. In fact it’s a permanent purchase, but it includes one year of updates. It won’t go away if you don’t pay after one year. The idea way to create a funding pool for each app to accumulate and fund it’s continued development.

        Now I’m thinking about potentially changing this to something like, say, $50 for initial download + 1 year updates, and then $10/year for updates if you already bought it. What do you think?

        The main reason I don’t like one-time purchases is because they create dependence on selling to new buyers and no motivation to service old buyers. MLM-like situation. One-time fees are good for unchanging product. web software needs constant updates .

        • the prince is very high if someone want to buy 10 apps it is 500$ if you make price 5$, 10$ it is raisonable and will encourage customers to buy it, same think for una market for developpers

          • The best is to have to the pro subscription for 50 USD a month which includes all apps and updates.

            • but if you only want some of them it's very expensive at $600 a year eg:

              mass mailer = 50
              nexus = 100
              stripe = 50
              paid levels = 50
              spaces = 50
              market = 50

              Total per year =  350

              • When your community develops you will need many apps.

                600 USD for year for such a framework with support... I don't think it's expensive.  and you may stop your membership anytime and continue with the versions of the apps you have.

                • I've priced about a dozen other "similar" (but not really comparable) community management software type builders and Una has been the best value and functionality. But, it's not for everyone and that makes it even more unique.

                  • We will review the pricing for individual apps and will add more bundles.

                    Different apps have different costs, but an example of a full module I’m leaning towards the model like this:

                    - Buy an app  initially for $50 with 2 years of updates included.
                    - After 2 years, if an app is purchased already, updates are $10/year.

                    - $50/month Pro subscription plan provides continued access to downloads and updates. So, it’s possible to buy a Pro plan for month, try various apps and then subscribe to yearly updates of individual ones.

                    - In effect the Pro plan buys you all apps for permanent use, but with only 1 month of updates.

                    • encouraging

                      otherwise all those below the 1% rich folks have to reconsider and do without

                      • I think this makes a lot better sense.

                        To buy and decide not to update is not a workable option because you are most likely going to be having issues when the framework is upgraded. Like trying to continue running a version 9.0 App on 10.0 base is not advisable. So to drop the barrier that keeps people away makes a lot of sense.

                        If you make any App and 10 people buys for @50 is not as rewarding as when 500 buys @20.

                        Come to think of it, It is mandatory to maintain the App for the 10 clients and same update effort will take care of 500 clients. So it makes better sense to lower the maintenance costs.
