How to optimize for speed

Hello UNA,

Tim Burleigh posted about page load speed for his site and it gave me the idea to run the analysis on mine also.  I downloaded the full report to see their recommendations for speed.  My page is photo and content heavy and still loads fully in 9 seconds.  A bit slow but I know it would be a little slower than others with the photos.  However, the GTMetrix analysis has some suggestions for improvement.

I have attached the full analysis pdf here and would welcome a method to implement some of the suggestions from GTMetrix.  Please take a look and advise as I think this may be helpful for others.  Thank you.

  • I took a look at the report and noticed that Scroll to Top was taking about 2.9 seconds to load so I disabled it and then went into cpanel and switched from php 5.6 to 7.2 and retested.  Got 4.3 seconds fully loaded. Still some issues regarding compression per the second report which is attached.

    • For full load it's very good time👍

      • I don’t have scroll to top enabled. And I also do not have access to control panel so I cannot make these changes.

        • I am at 10 seconds and basically nothing on my homepage. All I have is a timeline with seven items. But there are photos. Two meg total.

              • There is a misunderstanding about page speed.

I checked Tim's site it's very fast actually. The perceived load of the site is 3-4 seconds.

These tests like you did or Tim did measure the full reload of the site without using the cache mechanisms, this may be normal 10 seconds as there are many connections besides Una core like cookie consent script etc. and these also take time.

But in normal usage as I see Una is using cache mechanisms to make things faster and it works.

You may test the difference with F5 (full reload) and by clicking the site logo which will use the cache mechanisms.

                • I checked a little while ago and it loaded in 5.5 seconds. A few things dropped off the home page like video and photos.

                  • For a detailed discussion about site speed you may check my and Baloo  s findings from last summer:

                    https://una.io/page/view-discussion?id=3097

These are for non Una hosting setups as Una hosting  is already optimized.

                    • Cem and Baloo That was good work you did on the speed issue.  I switched to php 7.1 and squeezed out a couple more seconds.  Good job guys.
