Does Una.io use an SMTP server? if it is yes, which server, I imagine that it will help a lot in the choice

We use Mandrill from Mailchimp for transactional emails.

They sell 25,000 email blocks for $20 and down, as you scale. Not the cheapest and only makes sense if you're using Mailchimp as well. Generally, transactional emails are nothing special and there's no particular benefit of using one provider over another. You can use SendGrid, Amazon SNS, Sendingblue, etc...
