Blocking or Remove Users on Messenger

Hi,

Has there been any progress in adding a way to ban/block users on Messenger?  Once a chat is in progress, there doesn't seem to be a way to remove them.  I can block their ip and suspend the account, but as long as they still have the page/chat open, they can keep posting.  Thanks!

James

  • Hello James Webb !

Did you try to use the actions from the (i) icon in the chat? You have the "Edit participants list" and "Delete" actions there which may be useful in your situation.

    • Hello!

Yes, if the member is not in your contact group - (profile field - Who can contact me), then this member will not be able to see you in search list when trying to create new Talk and Message button will be hidden from your profile page for this member, but if you already have the talk with this person, then you just need to remove it and he will not be able create talk with you again.

      • Hi LeonidS & Alexey,

Thank you for your replies.  Sorry, I probably didn't explain completely.  We're admin on the site, and we're looking to immediately remove someone from a Messenger chat box that everyone has access to on the homepage.  I did try to edit the participants list, and clicked to remove the user, but he just kept messaging like nothing happened.

        James

        • Hello!

Access to the Messenger block is restricted only by page's privacy on which the block is located. It means that if the page with messenger block is located on public page and all members can see it, then the all members can post messages into it too.

          • But if a member is suspended then they should NOT be able to.  You have a Github about this but it doesn't look like it's been resolved: https://github.com/unaio/jot-client-una/issues/67

Please advise.  This is a problem as it leaves your site open to spammers.

            • Yes, public chats are available for the all users existed on the site and currently you may delete spammers with content and don't to suspend them. Anyway we will add this ability to the nearest update.
