No Option/Permission for Standard Users to Invite to Groups

So a member pointed out that as a Standard Member, they don't have the option to invite someone to a Group.

Below is a Group I did not create with my Standard Test Profile:

There's no option to invite someone to the group. (The group is an Open Group)

As I was testing it, I realized that the only time someone can invite someone else to a group, is when they're either creating the group or the person who created it. If they created it, then they get the option to be able to invite people.

This is the Group I created with my Standard Test Profile:

I now have the option as a Standard Member to invite people because I created it.

Is there a way to add the "Invite" permission to Standard Users under Groups?
Currently I think it's embedded with one of the other permissions because it doesn't come up under permissions and I'm not sure where to find the option for the settings drop-down box above...

  • I think someone should be able to invite someone into the group if it's an open group.
  • I don't think it should be an option for a closed group, as the person who started it should have that control.

    • Hello Five for A Change!

Well, we consider that actions "Like" and share in social networks is enough for profiles. This actions are visible for profile's friends so group can be wide known not only for members there.

      With the best regards, Leonid

      • Leo,

"Sharing" a page via the social links isn't the same as "Inviting" someone who is within the site itself.

If I want to "Invite" someone to a group...they will have to be within my social site.

If I want to share with someone outside the social site...the group has to be accessible to everyone. If it's not, then "Sharing" the group does me absolutely no good because it just give me an "Error" because it's not accessible outside of the social site.

Aka you have to be a member to see it.

Since my site is not 100% accessible to everyone. (The Blogs and Market are accessible to anyone).

You have to be able to give permissions to members, to be able to "Invite" other members, to the groups that aren't accessible to those from the outside.

So "Inviting" someone via "Sharing" is only possible if the groups are open to anyone...Otherwise, all you get is an error and a link people from the outside can't access.

        • Also, here's the error pic that I get when trying to "Share" a group that isn't accessible to non-members.

          • Invitation to a group/even can be sent anyone who can edit the group. If you want to allow someone to send invitations then you need to allow to edit group/even for him as well.

Also we can't allow anyone except group admins (or who can edit the group) to send invitations, Invitations can be sent only who can accept requests to join the group.

If you need other behaviour then you need to make custom modification or custom module.

            • Alex T⚜️ I would love to make a custom module or do it myself but my coding is next to none...aka I don't have that skill to know what to change and what to look for.

I feel that having other people be able to invite to an open group is not a big deal, as that's the whole point of allowing for the group to be open.

If groups is open then invitation is easy as send link to it by email. Adding permissions for anyone to invite to the group is security breach, due to the some internal code associated with the invitation.
