Question about notifications

I have a question on the notifications in... Notifications > Email > Activity by members you follow > the question is: what's the difference between "New Content" and "New Posts on Timeline"? Seems like the same thing to me.

New content is not always content posted by people you follow.

Hi all!
The New content is the content of the "first-level" like the new items in the Posts, Photos etc. And the New Posts on Timeline are all new updates in the TImeline.
