"No Editor" for comments not working
I personally don't like the tinymce editor to be visible when making a comment on a post. I think it's unnecessary to have it for comments on posts.
Before the last update, I went into the comments and set the comments section to have "No Editor". This takes out the tinymce editor and only shows a text box. It worked fine.
Forms -> Search (Comment) -> Under "Displays" click the link "2 Displays" -> Comment from Post -> Under "fields" click the link "7 fields" -> click the pencil icon by the "Text' option -> Under "Html Editor" select "No Editor".
After this last update, it (the update) put the tinymce editor back into the comments to which I don't want.
I just want it to give the option of a text box without the editor.
The issue now:
- When I select "No Editor" it still gives me the mini tinymce editor in comments.
Before it was just a text box with no editor...which I'd like to have again...
It's just much cleaner and a better option for posts.
I'm not sure why it's not working now...?
I've also attached a .mov to this to visually show you the process.
I've also already cleared cache and all the other things you normally have to do...

I agree, users like things easy and simple. They get scared of things they don't know and leave.

Tinymce editor isn't the best choice for things:
- Blogging/Commenting/Responding - when trying to upload a picture to it...it doesn't have any options to insert a photo directly...
- You have to have a link to the photo and insert the link which requires you to upload the photo somewhere else, then get the link, then add the photo to the actual blog/response/whatever...
- same goes with media files
- aka you have to either know the file link or know the code to embed it...
- most users don't know these things...
- It's terrible to work with in Mobile
- You can only attach a file to a response, which then has to be clicked on by the other person instead of just seeing a preview of it in the response.
- The options in it are good for typing stuff like this...but when blogging you basically have to know html code to be able to make a blog look decent...it's not a friendly GUI that helps write the bg code for you...
- Especially trying to get pictures to line up right...
- Plus a lot of other things...
- Blogging/Commenting/Responding - when trying to upload a picture to it...it doesn't have any options to insert a photo directly...

Exactly, I've had users complain about that. They like simple things, not stuff that takes time to figure out. In these days people love fast and quick. They hate stuff that takes a long time. Look at AmazonGo. It's a shopping facility and no cashiers. People don't like things that is difficult or complex. Those days are far gone.

Yeah, it's sad to say but it's also because people are so used to it now...
I think the "editor" for responses, comments, etc...needs to be simple but yet have more functionality that's not and actual editor...if that makes sense.
Give the user a text box with function buttons that allows for them to upload a picture/video with automatic link creation with a preview and you'd be fine...

Absolutely and I am from the NY/NJ area, these people don't even look at the traffic light to cross the streets.

Right...lol

If you want to compete with other social media, u need to provide something more powerful and easier.
-
Yeah, and that's why I post so much...
I try to think like my users will think and I know I'm a pain in the ass about it...but it's how my users think...lol -

From 9.0.0-RC7 it's possible to set different text editor for comments in different modules. But it has to be changed in the DB.
For example to remove HTML editor in forum, run the following query:
UPDATE `sys_objects_cmts` SET `Html` = '0' WHERE `Name` = 'bx_forum';

Also we've added new module - Froala editor, which is more mobile friendly and supports images upload directly to the editor.

Paid the $50 for Froala module and already found a problem with Froala on Mobile...
After I take a picture on mobile it loads the pic sideways and doesn't let me rotate it after upload...seems to be the same problem that you've been having with mobile uploads on the site with Mobile
Can ya fix it soon since I didn't get to test drive it before I bought it...?

I have my son this weekend, but I will look into this nightmare brother. I promise!

Now images are uploaded as it is, we'll consider to add resizing in the next update, then they will be auto-rotated:
