old dolphin 7 vs una new site dec 2018

in 2023 will there be no dolphin 7 or mods and it switches over to new una.io software, and what does do for users that have paid dolphin 7 permanent license? I have also bought over 100 dolphin mods that cost big bucks, so what happens to all that money paid out? it goes down the drain?

    • Hello Crystal!

After 2023, if you’d till haven’t transferred to UNA you’d be able to use DolphinPro as is, but further updates would require a transition to an UNA-powered Dolphin solution. By then we should be able to make it seamless enough.

      • how do I transfer my dolphin pro to UNA, do I have to pay money again and what about the mods I paid 100's of dollars for?

        • Hello crystal sluka !

If you have a Dolphin Permanent license, it can be transferred to UNA Power Plan license.

This Power Plan license will be free of charge and lifetime.

To do the transfer, we need the following information from you:

          1) Dolphin Permanent license ID

          2) UNA.IO profile ID or profile link

          • Hi crystal sluka - your concerns are valid ! I myself was in your shoes, I've been using D7 for close to 10yrs. Things were great at one point. I am not even going to mention the money I spent on D7. But I should also admit that some of the vendors I purchased D7 Mods from all of sudden vanished & they were nowhere to be found. As result when D7 gets upgraded to a new version, my site started going south because some these Mods need to get updated as well. Long story short, It was very painful to keep Dolphin current because I was using too many Mods which needed periodic updates and I got tired of babysitting the site. In today's new technology, companies are embracing the new trend where Apps & Databases are becoming more & more self-managed and self-upgraded which enables companies to focus on the main core of the business rather than babysitting the underline infrastructure. In the Cloud world, they call it Serverless.
Having said that, I made the decision to migrate 2 of my D7 sites to UNA about 3 months ago. The learning curve has been a bit challenging, but I really have nothing to complain about so far. The fact that UNA has the option to self-update & self-upgrade itself to keep the site current is a HUGE PLUS for me, not to mention the site performs well and very RESPONSIVE which is another cool feature that can save me money w/o the need to deploy Portal App for my site. Also the support is not bad, I see everyone on this Forum helping each other including UNA team.
What I would like to see though is to have a HOW-TO indexed wiki page so new people like you and myself can go there & find things quickly to get a jump-start. I know you can do a search on this forum, but having an indexed Wiki based on categories would be more effective which will help the community find things quickly and avoids asking redundant questions that have already been asked by someone else. I understand this is a fairly new platform, I am sure UNA team have few things planned out to help the community and to make this great platform successful.
In short, in the long-term, things will balance out & we should see the money savings as well, and not to mention now we have less headaches to worry about as far as maintaining the site is concerned.
            Cheers.

thanks and what about transferring the older mods I bought 100 that costs too much money?

I also am studying programming and network security with ethical hacking, after that I may have what it takes to design mods at una.io. how would I become a developer here?

              • thanks for the details, I am learning how to do programming so hopefully I can redesign the 100 mods I have that can't work anymore or the site admin abandon their mods like the video and game mods I have I paid 300 for just those mods. so if they abandon them and I reinvent them for the new una I don't think it would hurt sense they are not a member no more:( and their mods have been broken for years now with the old dolphin 7.

                • That's exactly what I've been saying, you pay the money and all of sudden they throw you under the bus. I've been there, I learned my lesson. Therefore, I will not buy too many Mods this time, I will try to use most of UNA native Mods instead since I know they will keep maintaining their Mods. Even if I have to pay a reasonable yearly service fee, it is worth it.  For instance, take a look at the big social networking sites like FB & Twitter, anyone can create similar platforms, right,  but what made them successful is not just hosting a website and let it run on its own, but rather they raised enough capital to hire engineers & developers in order to maintain & support their platform. Running a website without support is just like a bomb waiting to explode.  Yes, learning new programming skills is a great idea, let me know when you create a cool Mod, I will buy it from you :)

                  • thank you, I think I could be good at it because I can read code
