Crowd fund new modules?

Ok this may seem too radical an idea but I'm gonna put it out there. As many people know not all of can put the amount of money we want into creating new modules and many custom jobs never make it onto the market (which is perfectly fine). So here's the idea. The ability to be able to crowd fund a NEW module that is approved by the UNA crowd funders and UNA team.

1.) UNA member pitches an idea for module

2.) UNA developers decide if module is doable

3.) UNA developers decide timeframe, and costs.

4.) UNA member can pitch the suggestion, the cost, and time frame PUBLICLY with how many funders  needed and amount each needs to donate. (Must be equal amounts).

5.) Once amount is reached and approved by UNA developers, work can begin on the modules and when finished the funders will each receive a copy of the custom module.

UNA developers could even add a membership level that people could subscribe to in order to have the option to become funders. Modules would have to be fully understood of their capabilities and a signed acknowledgement before everyone releases funding. Must also include questions that are able to be answered by either developers or other funders and Devs must provide timeline updates. Two timelines must be provided. One is the expected and another is the delayed maximum date.

Think of Kickstarter but just with modules and better transparency.

    • Ha! I actually built an app for this specific scenario, but it didn't gain traction with the Community I built it for, so it's just been sitting dormant. I would need to upgrade the plan it's on to function properly, but I'd be happy to get it working again if there is interest from Una team and members.

You can get a rough idea of it here: featureseed

      • Times change and needs change!

        • Great idea homie!

          • Sounds like a great idea. I could foresee some potential issues though when it comes to this idea. For example, making sure that the new module would benefit multiple websites and not specific to a single user's (or a couple of users) site. Might as well pay the developer directly for a custom mod if a single person would be the only one benefiting 😁

If the module idea is great, and can be done, but will cost say... $500 to do and only 5 UNA members agree, then that is $100 each. 😲

What if someone wanted to purchase the module at a later time but did not participate in the initial funding of the module. How much would it cost them? I assume you would agree that any module created should be available in the Marketplace right?

Would the initial funding costs cover ALL updates required to the module to be compatible with newer versions of UNA? I would assume that the developer would have to agree to keep the module updated at all times.

If there was a request to add additional features to that module, would everyone who participated in the initial development have to pay the equal amounts for the requested feature(s)?

Just a few things that crossed my mind. It's a great idea but just wondering if it would be feasible with something like UNA.. Who knows.

            • The suggestion/Pitch would be public and would have to be detailed enough that anyone interested would know if the module fits what they have in mind for their website or not. If the module would cost $500 to create the investing could open at 10 spaces at $50 each. As long as it's public they can flex the payment and investor amount needed before it is actually open to receive the payments. If the module was to go on the Marketplace all investors would have to agree. Technically it would be considered a custom job so it might be hard to just plop it up on the Market and separate the profits to each investor plus Devs to maintain. Maybe the profits could be pooled to support a future custom mod? A request to add additional features would be up to the individual asking or they can ask the others if they want the features availible on their version of the mod. Additional features. Would be considered custom jobs just like anyone wanting to customize an availible mod already on the Marketplace

P.S. this is the crowd funding method of doing things taking payment after funding goal is reached i think its automated also the platforms take 10% commission i think from the funding goal to help keep the platform free and open
