Replies in Discussions are Confusing

So when I reply to someone in the Discussions...
It doesn't attach itself to the comment I replied to.
It puts itself at the very bottom of the comments as a separate comment.

This is very confusing...

The bottom comment is a reply back to another person about another issue but the reply continues in the line as if it was a comment back to Naomi...

That gets super confusing as the replies should attach themselves to the comment I replied back to. Like Facebook does it below.

When I reply, it should be attached to the comment I replied back to...especially if the other person is looking for it...how are they supposed to know which response is back to them?

    • This is standard behaviour for forum functionality, if you want different functionality (more like comments) for you site you can change it in `sys_objects_cmts` table, set `NumberOfLevels` to 1 (or more) for 'bx_forum' row.

        • Five For A Change thanks for all the testing. I've been very busy with other stuff. I have not had time to test websites. Thanks again.

          • I just find this stuff randomly using my own site...lol but yeah, I'm a hound dog when it comes down to trying to make it user friendly...

            • Ok, so messing around with it a little more I understand what you mean by "standard behavior" for a forum...and I take it the reply icon by my name is what will take me back to the reply?

Also, I tried what you suggested but didn't see a change in the way it functioned. It still did the same thing and put the replies at the bottom of the forum post and not under the response I was replying to.

              • Yes, this is arranged like that intentionally. In typical Forum format each post is displayed as equally important, even if it is a reply to someone else's post. If you show replies hierarchy is becomes indistinguishable from a blog post with comments, which defeats the main purpose of having a Discussion format, where a new reply would make the Discussion appear on top of the list of all Discussions. See, if you, say, reply to the first comment and it doesn't show in the end of the line, it will be hard for someone to find your latest post if they open the Discussion from the main list.

                • I admit that at the beginning, when I discovered the principle, I did not appreciate much. After careful thought, I now find that it is particularly well thought out and well adapted for the particular case of forums.
I find that this principle helps to stay focused on the main subject and does not encourage deviations, like a tree with too many branches.
On the other hand, I throw an idea like that, I do not know if it is good but why not display like this directly? (see print screen)
A new member does not really have the reflex to go over the arrow while the information it gives to flyby is very important.

                  • Yeah, it took me a minute to realize that's what that did...and I'm seasoned at this stuff...so maybe there would be a better option to let people know what that is?

                    • I need to get bag with the testing brother, but thanks again.

Try to clear UNA cache files after this change.

                        • Cache files on the server, data base or just the browser?

I cleared the cache files on the browser with no change...

                          • Hello Five For a Change!

First - clear all caches via Studio->Dashboard, then clear cache of your browser.

                            With the best regards, Leonid
