    • We are settling with OvenMediaEngine as they are adding support for capturing video stream from within the browser. Actual streaming features will be appearing in UNA 13.

One big challenge is the infrastructure - we now have experience working with UNA installation streaming to about 5000 simultaneous viewers, and found that server costs for the web server, DB server and streaming infrastructure can be really high when The stream is on, but most of the time it sits idle, so it’s a kind of feature that leads to a very irregular usage patterns. Smaller communities may not have that problem because of low activity, larger communities can spread the load and perhaps absorb the cost, but mid-size networks really struggle - especially those in 20K to 200K members size. A few ideas on how to solve this include launching our own streaming server service and making UNA easer to deploy within scaleable containers.

      • Have you checked out some of the new AWS Media services? I have tested all of them and have the cost per month on most of the products during my testing, they all scale up and down super easy. You can have 100 channels per AWS zone live at any one time. Cloudflare is launching a new live streaming platform as well currently VOD is available for the pro-level accounts, the VOD is super fast on my sites. We are building out our infrastructure now and one of the things I would like to see is the ability to add vast links and more player meta options both at the global level and user level for broadcasters. Anything I can do to help let me know.... Thanks!
