Apple must now allow 3rd party payments

Apple lost a key decision against EPIC and must now allow 3rd party payment systems. They also cannot block links or buttons that re-direct to these payment systems. Although it stops short of more ease for developers; this is crucial for app developers who no longer have to eliminate payment options or links to payment systems.

      • No exactly allow payments. They’re just forced to allow apps to refer to other payment methods outside of the app. Something like “go to our site to pay with PayPal”.

        • It says here https://www.seattletimes.com/business/judge-loosens-apples-grip-on-app-store-in-epic-decision/?amp=1

That the judge took another step into allowing other payment systems directly in the app now saying it helps create a fair market

          • Finally! Goggle has had this option for a while now. Apple probably wouldn't have made the choice on their own.

            • It sounds like users will be able to make purchases directly in app with other providers, instead of being forced to use Apple Pay.

Yea that's Correct. It means apple cant force us into apple pay or kick us off our users use external tools within the app to paypal, strip, chargebee so on so on.

Its a game changer as apple ecosystem is so closed unless apples blessing to conduct business that way.

                  Not Anymore

                  • I wonder if developers can avoid the 30% Apple fee by using outside links since Apple wouldn't be able to track payments made outside the app. 🤔. I'm not an Apple user so I assume Apple takes their cut straight from their payment system. If we can pinpoint how Apple tracks payments to take their 30% fee cut that would help developers decide if outside links is better than other payments systems in the app. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple tries to implement some type of payment tracer in the apps. Hopefully we get better clarity in the future.

it just means apple cant block our users useing what they like but im sure apple would have a case if they could prove we where going out our way to not pay not sure though.

                      • does not mean we cant use fortnits tactics by giving the same for like $1 less that's why apple filed this suit giving the same to avoid the tax leave the math/maths up to the users :-)
