Recurring events

Is there a way to have recurring events show the next date. If I set an event to occur every Wednesday at 3PM for example, it shows on the calendar on the event, but the dates always remain on the original dates when you first created the event if you look on the timeline or in the events home.  I guess I can always go in and change the date every time, but there is no point to recurring if I got to go in and do it each time to set it to the next Wednesday's date. Could I possibly missing something?
