Update rc7 is not suggested
It's strange, I have no suggestion to update to rc7 in console. For the other updates I had it. I specify that auto-update and force are unchecked at home.
On the other hand I have the modules waiting for update.
Why ?

I reported this... https://una.io/page/view-discussion?id=912. This may be the reason why they prevented RC7 upgrade.

We've temporarily deactivated 9.0.0.RC7 update, because of the problem with Timeline update, we'll try to resolve it on Monday and re-activate 9.0.0.RC7 update.

Hello
We needed to release RC8 just after RC7 to fix some issue related to Module Auto Update feature which was discovered applying the RC7 update. It's not so critical issue but it may stop autoupdates for some modules.

Hello Anton, Yes I understood that correctly, as it was the case for rc4 -> (rc5-> rc6).
What worries me is that if I remember correctly, I still had to go through RC5.
In this case, I am in rc6 and he offers me directly rc8 without going through rc7.
Is this normal? -

I tried to update through the dashboard and now get a database query error after the page sitting for a while stating
Site will be upgraded within a minuteNever did update or refresh the screen so now the site is down. -

You were in rc6 and you went to rc8?

Yeah, because it talked about not using RC7

Update:
So I refreshed the page dashboard....and it didn't display any info on the screen. I went in via FTP and cleared all but htaccess from cache and cache_public folders. I refreshed dashboard page again and it says the following...so I am clicking on update again and see what happens. Will update once it finishes.

Because it's applying RC7 from RC6... you need to upgrade once more to get to RC8.

Everything is good now. Cleared cache once again after it said it would be updated within a minute. Site is back up and running normal.

Hello Baloo
As I know if you have RC6 then it should offer you to update up to RC7 first and then offer the RC8.
May be you were automatically updated to RC7. If you still have the issue provide (via PM) us please with the access info for your Studio to check. -

Anton L you and AlexT fixed my site issues last night, first of all THANKS!
Since Alex manually updated my timeline module, and you fixed my forum bug; do I still need to apply the RC8?

Anton, It doesn't ask it just states RC8 is available and click the update button. Once thats done and you refresh the page, it will tell you RC7 is installed and once again that RC8 is available

You're very wrong, Anton

RC6>RC8... something will break and we don't want that, right? No worries.
That's why we're going RC6>RC7>RC8. Just poorly demonstrating to state between versions update procedure. As rule of thumb, we can't skip version(s) because... there's always fixes in each version that needs to be apply first before moving forward.

Absolutely, that's why I ask the question, but Anton answered this is not normal.
Anton L I think other people have this problem, as you can see I am in rc6 and automatic update and always disabled at home.
So? -

- ·
If we see RC6 installed and RC8 update available. It doesn't mean we're skipping... even though it looks that way.
In reality... if you click, it will apply RC7 first
Refresh, you'll see RC7 installed
Perform modules updates ( ignore Timeline )
Then click once more to RC8, it will apply RC8
And lastly, don't forget to perform Timeline module update
-
Michael Newton yes, you need to apply 9.0.0-RC8 update, since there are some other minor fixes
