UNA site is much faster now
I noticed UNA site is much faster now.
May I ask what changes are done?

Hello Cem!
It depends from the moment when you noticed a speed grow :-) May you give us a time interval?

No updates released since before Christmas, so perhaps it is your server?

May be you changed the caching settings. The good thing is faster then before.

hello Mark, I think Cem talks about the Una site, it's funny, I also feel like it's lighter in a short time. Also I wanted to ask, you have reduced the page width enough, there is a technical advantage to doing it?

Yes, it is much faster now and there is reason. Something anyone can do - cleanup.
1. We stopped using google fonts. Although some of them look nice, the extra time for losing them isn’t worth it. Just using a good system font stack is cool.
2. We removed Intercom platform library. First, we don’t want to track people that closely and second the extra losing time isn’t worth it.
3. We have optimised some images. Just good old exporting with extra attention to size.
4. All caches and minifiers are enabled in Studio.
Overall Speedtest results are excellent now. We could further improve by using CDN, but that’s a bit tricky because of subdomains using una.io for communities on Cloud. One day we’ll do it.
Next step will be improving server response time by code optimisation - we keep doing it continuously as we observe more activity on client sites and determine bottlenecks.
And ultimately a single-page-app interface will make it feel near-instant. ✌️

Andrew Boon Andrew especialy top part of the page that includes the site logo, profile picture and notification, it takes a few to several seconds to load in our installations.
Can you please explain which optimization did the speed up of that part? -
Effective! Andrew or Mark, could you do a separate post, a bit like you did for Dolphin, with the details of all the optimization we can do and how to do it? I think that would be very useful to everyone. And for the page width that you have reduced, it plays on performance or is it just a matter of aesthetics?

It seems like the effect is more prominant through PC connections. In phones yes it is faster, but pages in PC are not having the top line (nottifications etc.) latency. -

Like Andrew said we removed different 3rd-party integrations, I think that it's the part which influence on the speed more than other things.
One more thing which wasn't mentioned, it was a bug with images resizing for Retina screens, so if you are using retina screen you should notice the improvement.
Also all these things was done more than several weeks ago, when particularly you noticed the improvement ?

Also if you noticed it just recently then it was custom font removed.

For the font issue shall we also do something?
There is a significant loading speed difference between PC and phone home pages. In PC the reload of the page is instant while in phones it is not like PC (especially the top block of the page) Why? -

You don't need to do anything about the fonts if you didn't added it manually to your site like we did. Also it looks like our Ocean template is using custom font.
Are you logged in on both devices ? since it's significant difference, when you are logged-in much more things are loaded additionally. Also many phones have retina screens, so some images maybe up to 4 times larger on retina screens and load slower. Also phones usually have slower network connection. Also phones maybe less powerful than PCs. Also when you tap on links on mobiles there is usually some delay, before link start to load. So there are many factors.

yes Alex I am logged in both PC and phone.
PC is ethernet connected and phone through wifi :)
As you explained possibly this is one of the reasons.

Cem give UNA 12 a try on a dev server and enable the Async mode on your slow to load pages, the improvement is amazing. The UNA Team have done a great job with the release. Thank you Andrew Boon and Team, can't wait for the production release.
We took out Google Analytics, just that alone improved speed Significantly. Taking out all 3rd party code really made a huge difference.

I will try InPage, following the disscussions and already impressed by the big step forward!

You bet! Async loading of timeline cut down page load from 8 sec to 2 sec!
But still, my front page does about 2000 queries to DB which is awful!
